The BLASS NSBE Jr. Chapter is a K-12 PCI Chapter with members in the U.S. and Nigeria.

BLASS NSBE Jr. Chapter is a Region 1 NSBE PCI Chapter and has been adopted by NSBE Aerospace SIG. We are also supported by the University of Connecticut (UCONN) Storrs NSBE Collegiate Chapter.

BLASS NSBE Jr. members participate in the AIAA/NSBE DRONE ROBOTICS Competition, Python Programming, FIRST Robotics Competitions, Region 1 Fall Regional Conference, Math Competitions, and many more. We are in continuous planning with UCONN NSBE Collegiate Chapter and Engineering Ambassadors to mentor our students and provide S.T.E.M activities and events.

During the past year we participated in the NSBE Region 1 Fall Regional Conference from Nov. 17-21, 2021, and competed in the Math Counts competition, and received some awards. Also, we participated in Region 1 event “The Past, The Present, and The Future of Black History”  that took place on February 16, 2022 from 6pm – 8:30pm. The Teams enjoyed working together and took 1st place in the Black History competition against the NSBE Collegiate Chapters. Every summer, The Team participates in a variety of summer programs, including the Summer Engineering Experience for Kids (SEEK) three-week Program for 3rd – 5th grade students, Girls in Technology Program for 6th - 8th grade students, and many internships for high school 9th  - 12th grade students.

Each year, NSBE Jr., NSBE Collegiate, and NSBE Professional members from around the country and the world come together at the NSBE Annual Convention Conference. At the conference students participate in various activities and competitions, including Robotics, Science Fairs, Career Fairs, Resume Building, Mentoring, Field Trips, etc. For more on the conference and to view this year’s agenda visit https://convention.nsbe.org/

NSBE Vision

We envision a world in which engineering is a mainstream word in homes and communities of color, and all Black students can envision themselves as engineers. In this world, Blacks exceed parity in entering engineering fields, earning degrees, and succeeding professionally.

NSBE Mission & Objectives

The mission of the National Society of Black Engineers is “to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.”

The National Society of Black Engineers strives to accomplish the following objectives for our organization:

  • Stimulate and develop student interest in the various engineering disciplines

  • Strive to increase the number of minority students studying engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate levels

  • Encourage members to seek advanced degrees in engineering or related fields and to obtain professional engineering registrations

  • Promote public awareness of engineering and the opportunities for Blacks and other minorities in that profession

  • Function as a representative body on issues and developments that affect the careers of Black Engineers

Innovative project ideas are generated and implemented throughout the year on the chapter, regional and national levels. Some of NSBE’s present activities include tutorial programs, group study sessions, high school/junior high outreach programs, technical seminars and workshops, a national communications network (NSBENET), two national magazines (NSBE Magazine and NSBE Bridge), an internal newsletter, a professional newsletter (Career Engineer, a supplement in NSBE Magazine), resume books, career fairs, awards, banquets and an annual national convention.
